A root canal is performed to remove infected pulp from the root of a tooth. This happens if teeth are left unchecked and bacteria reaches the root and infection sets in.
What Happens at an Appointment
A local anesthetic will be given to numb the area around the infected tooth. Using a tiny device, a small hole is made in the tooth for the tool to go in and clean out the infection. The hole is filled and a crown is placed to cover the tooth. This typically happens in two appointments.
